Autumn’s Harvest Blog Hop

Fall has always been my favorite season. There is something poignant about this time of year: the lengthening shadows and shortening days, the smell of burning leaves on the air, the crunch of fallen leaves beneath your feet. All of nature seems restless: squirrels frantically stockpiling nuts, antler-crowned stags battling over does, great orb weavers spinning enormous webs, and flocks of birds heading south in a black river across the sky.

So much memory and emotion is invested in autumn for me. The tangy smell of apple cider brings back recollections of buying it fresh-pressed from a roadside stand. The scent of smoke from the neighbor’s chimney reminds me of chopping wood for the stove which was our only way of heating the house I grew up in. And of course the explosion of color, the last farewell from dying leaves who have served their purpose and now must be discarded.

HaintedIt seemed natural to set Hainted in the fall. There is the obvious connection between the death of summer and the dead souls Leif and Dan are charged to lay to rest, of course. But for me autumn carries with it a sort of wistfulness, a sad beauty, which fit the mood of portions of the book. There is a sense of last chances in fall–but wrapped up within them is the promise of new life, for those that survive winter’s cruelty.

I hear you about those longer days! Going back on Eastern Standard Time is the thing I hate most about the fall. It gets dark way too early!

  1. I’m not crazy about the fall. I love heat – the hotter the better (I still haven’t figured out why I live in New England). Fall to me means the start of winter. I love Summer.

    • jordan

If I lived in New England with all that snow, I don’t think I’d be very thrilled about it either. 🙂

Fall means all the holidays are coming up back to back starting with Halloween! 🙂
It also means the temperatures here in Texas become bearable again and you can spend more time outside.

  3. My favorite thing about fall is the temperature and warm colors around me. The foods are great too, like crumbled apple pie! I also like the idea that it is just one more holiday season before Christmas! Oh, and let’s not forget the awesome sales!

Mmm, apple pie. I’m starting to develop a fondness for pumpkin pie, but I’m not completely sold on it yet. 😉

Autumn is my favorite season! I like all the beautiful colors outside and the weather is not that hot anymore but not freezing cold either. It’s just perfect! Thank you for the giveaway!

  5. My favorite season is actually spring with fall coming a close second. It’s not too cold but not too hot. I love the leaves changing.

It’s hard to say what exactly would be my Go-To Autumn Romance book. When I think real hard about it, I would have to say it has a sexy, strong, determined male that when it comes to love is just lost. Then there has to be a woman who is usually in need of help or needs to know what love and family is. Together they heal each other and love turns out to be their greatest gift. I also love a happy ending at this time of year, usually where the epilogue has them starting their own family to love and cherish. Oh….and definitely HOT loving too!

Fall is my favorite season & I love everything about it! I love the colors, the crunch of leaves, hot apple cider, and bonfires! Fall always means a time of reflection and new beginnings.

Thanks for the giveaway! I prefer spring to fall, but I love the colorful leaves of autumn as well as the knowledge that the holiday season is approaching.

Fall for me means my birthday and halloween.

But it also evokes transition, because summer and winter feels so long and poor fall is just sandwiched in between.

My favorite season is spring when everything is new and bright. Autumn is always so cold and wet over here, that what I like the best about it is my birthday:) It’s next week!

  27. I love all the holidays associated with autumn. In fact, I live in Central America where we just celebrated All Soul’s Day. People here eat and spend time as family honoring their lost family members. Made me think about what you said about your book Hainted. 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway.

I like Autumn the best because of the cooler temperatures and the changing colors. Also, it’s a time to make tasty hot soups or stews. BTW, Hainted has a wonderful cover. Thanks for the contest!

I love everything about Fall–the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and touch (of the cool air). I especially love that the tourists are gone from my area, the lovely deserted beaches, and “sweater weather.” I am the queen of sweater twin sets!

I love autumn with all the brilliant colors: oranges, yellows and reds of leaves. I love crisp, cool mornings where the sky is so blue it looks endless and the air is so fresh in your lungs. I love snuggling up in a warm throw on a cold autumn day with a good book. Of course, I love snuggling up with a good book about anytime of the year. I love Thanksgiving because it is a time to remember all the many blessings in my life and express thanks. I love baking spicy pumpkin pies with dollops of cream.

I like stories of the unexpected. I also love the steamy passion but I hate mentioning favorite authors because the list is long. I appreciate the many styles authors use to weave stories of mystery, love, intrigue, preternatural and inspiration. I love reading because I can go anywhere, any time in my mind and imagine indescribable things.

Thank you for this contest and the opportunity to be introduced to new authors.

When Fall comes I get a little melancholy. but in a good way! lol… It’s almost the end of the year and the leaves and the colors… it’s just beautiful. So in the end Fall is my favorite time of year. Cuz you get to view all these colors that nature has to offer.

  32. Toni

As soon as the air starts getting cooler, it reminds me of all the colored dry leaves and we would chase them around as the wind blew them and see who could make the loudest “crunch”.It also reminds me of my home in Colo where fall seemed magical..I couldnt believe all the colors, leaves floating in streams and dancing in the wind as they fell. The crisp air with the scent of fires burning in fireplaces. Bundling up in warm, comfy clothes and sipping spiced cider with cinnamon sugar toast.

  33. Carla

Thanks for joining in the hop. It was great to be introduced to your work.
My favorite part about autumn is that the cool weather gives me the perfect excuse to keep my oven full of yummy deliciousness that I really can’t do during two of the three other seasons. I love the feeling of being able to have yummy stuff baking while I nestle in with a good read.

  34. petula winmill

Autumn is the perfect temperature here on the Costa del Sol in Spain. Not too hot nor too cold. Even my dogs prefer it they have much more energy. Lovely long walks in the sunshine

  35. I love fall! My husband and I drive up the River Road and see all of the changing colors. We will stop at a quaint restraunt for lunch and wine. It is breathtaking.
