This is going to be a mini-update this week, since between the holiday and edits I’m way behind.
Those who enjoyed my freaky Victorian photo last week might find this interesting: Hidden mothers in Victorian portraits. Basically, because early photos had such long exposure times, if you wanted a picture of just the kids, there was no way to keep them from squirming while the photo was taken. You’d think the solution would be to just have Mom in the photo too, but those crazy Victorians decided it would be way better to have her in frame but hidden under a blanket. As a result, some of these kids look like they’re being menaced by either Death or Black Riders. Maybe both.
